Microsoft has officially launched Windows 12, the latest version of its flagship operating system, featuring deep integration of AI-powered tools designed to transform how users interact with their PCs.
At the core of Windows 12 is the new AI Copilot, a built-in assistant accessible system-wide to help users automate tasks, generate content, and navigate workflows more efficiently. Copilot leverages advanced large language models to understand natural language commands, enabling users to write emails, create documents, summarize meetings, and even generate code snippets—all without leaving their desktop environment.
Microsoft showcased Copilot’s capabilities during the launch event, demonstrating how it can seamlessly assist with tasks in popular applications like Outlook, Word, Excel, and the newly updated Visual Studio IDE for developers. For example, users can ask Copilot to draft a project proposal, create data visualizations from Excel tables, or debug a section of code using simple natural language instructions.
Windows 12 also introduces enhanced voice recognition and real-time language translation, making it easier for users worldwide to communicate and collaborate across different languages. Security has been bolstered with AI-powered threat detection that identifies and quarantines suspicious activities faster than ever.
The operating system is designed for modern hybrid work environments, supporting a wide range of devices including traditional PCs, tablets, and ARM-based laptops. Microsoft emphasizes performance improvements and energy efficiency to ensure longer battery life and smoother multitasking.
Windows 12 will be available as a free upgrade for Windows 11 users starting late 2025, with new devices pre-installed with the OS shipping from early 2026.
Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, stated, “Windows 12 is the most intelligent and productive version of Windows yet. Our goal is to empower every person and organization to do more with AI-driven experiences that adapt to how you work.”
Industry analysts expect Windows 12’s AI integration to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence in everyday computing, bridging the gap between complex AI models and practical user needs.
