Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy Fold 8, its newest foldable smartphone, marking a significant advancement with the integration of an under-display camera (UDC) on the main folding screen. This innovation allows users to enjoy an uninterrupted and immersive display experience without a visible camera cutout or notch.
The Galaxy Fold 8 features a large 7.9-inch foldable AMOLED display with vibrant colors and a 120Hz refresh rate, providing smooth scrolling and gaming experiences. The under-display camera technology is designed to deliver improved selfie quality compared to previous attempts at hidden cameras, thanks to advanced pixel transparency and AI image enhancement algorithms.
Under the hood, the device is powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, coupled with 12GB of RAM and up to 1TB of internal storage. Samsung has also implemented AI-based battery optimization techniques that adapt to user behavior to extend battery life over a full day of heavy use.
The foldable design maintains durability improvements, including a reinforced hinge mechanism and Gorilla Glass Victus 3 protection on the outer screen. The Galaxy Fold 8 runs on Android 15 with Samsung’s One UI 6 skin, offering enhanced multitasking features optimized for the larger screen.
Samsung also highlighted improvements in camera capabilities, with a triple-lens rear setup featuring a 108MP main sensor, ultra-wide lens, and telephoto zoom, enabling high-quality photos and videos in various lighting conditions.
The Galaxy Fold 8 will be available globally starting August 2025, with prices expected to start around $1,799, targeting premium smartphone users looking for cutting-edge foldable technology.
Samsung’s Vice President of Mobile Communications stated, “The Galaxy Fold 8 pushes the boundaries of foldable innovation, delivering a seamless display experience with the new under-display camera and powerful performance for users who want the best of both worlds.”
